BIG CITY GIRL, LOVES POLITICS, GREEN LUSH COMMUNITIES, SOUTHERN LIVING AND ALL OF THE CRAZY THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT….

Hello I’m Sheryl Brown,

I am a Community Engagement Leader, I have lived in Atlanta GA. for 27 years and I am originally from Chicago and it is where I discovered my passion for the arts, community advocacy and design. However, my love for environmentalism developed after moving to beautiful, Atlanta, GA,. I did not know I could love the rhythm of so many different neighborhoods and the never ending tall trees, vistas, parks and other lovely open spaces of a city so much but Atlanta has stolen my heart and makes me want to stand up for it, talk about it, and share with others the importance of COMMUNITY. My excitement is in helping to build strong communities from within and teaching neighbors how to BOSS UP and work with hired officials to achieve incredible and thriving neighborhoods and communities.
I have served in a couple of community leadership organizations including NPU-R as secretary and vice chair for three years and The Cascade Business Consortium, for five years and I have produced the Adams Park Cultural Arts Festival for ten years. Both opportunities have served as great vehicles to help bring change in my community. My past experience has been, when neighbors come together and create a strong sense of community, police, mayors and city council listen, partner and work together very well to achieve excellent public services, thriving economics, clean well managed parks and facilities and it starts with communication between us and our elected/hires.

“The BOSS UP” is coming… Civics Education is a right and to not be taught how our democracy works in our public schools is a serious form of Voter Suppression, we are about to change all of that.

Adams Park is a culturally Black American community located in southwest Atlanta and it is a country club community with a creek, lake, 18 hole golf course, swimming pool, splash pad, baseball fields, pavilions with stone grills…. I could go on about this incredible park but I think you should see it for yourself, Adams Park, 1620 DeLowe Dr. SW Atlanta GA. 30311.

2017 3G Roundtable, The CBC hosted a community Check In with community stakeholders, business owners and residents and discovered ;
1. The crime on the corridor was getting increasingly worse and the businesses on the corridor were being held hostage while watching it all go down.
2. Our youth ages 13 through 21 have very few organizations they can train with to bring out the skills that they need to get jobs and retain them.

Cascade Business Consortium 2018 Round Table & 3GSummit.

2017 3G Summit is where we came back to the community to discuss what the root problem was on the business corridor and how we treated it as a Challenge and created a Strategy

  1. We created a Court Watch Team and a relationship with the DA’s office and began attending court cases that affected SW Atlanta. We read witness statements and spoke to the judge on behalf of our community. The judge replied with a full mandatory sentencing for breaking, entering and assault in a senior community and warned he and his family who live in SW Atlanta to visit with him outside of our community or he will be arrested and returned to jail.
  2. The CBC created Civics Education workshop and taught it at local libraries aimed at 16 to 28 year olds but find out so many people had been deprived of Civics Education that we continued to teach to everyone.
